Parent Support

When facing an overwhelming emotional experience, like your child receiving a diagnosis of autism, many people feel fearful, isolated and alone and are unsure where to turn. Counselling is a way to relieve that sense of aloneness by forming a trusting relationship with someone who acknowledges and accepts the journey you are on. My own personal experience of raising an autistic child affords me the insight to understand the complex emotions associated with a diagnosis and the concerns for the wellbeing of the child and the family as a whole. My hope is to assist each individual by guiding and supporting them on their parenting experience and helping them reach a place where they gain the strength and resilience required to deal with the challenges as they present.

Many people with a more subtle presentation of autism go undiagnosed until adolescence and even into adulthood. Often there are feelings of relief as it can help you understand why you experience certain difficulties and what you can do about them. However, the consequences of not gaining an early diagnosis can cause distress due to masking or being inappropriately labelled as difficult or socially awkward. Making sense of early childhood and teenage experiences can help integrate this new reality into your life and support you in working through any traumatic experiences you have endured.
